About the Bible Society in Taiwan
Founded in 1956, the Bible Society in Taiwan (BSTWN) is a faithful member of the United Bible Societies (UBS), devoted to Bible translation, publication, and distribution. Under the leadership of Rev. Sing-doh Ko (Chairman of the Board) and Rev. Shou-hui Chung (General Secretary), together with a team of 15 dedicated staff, the BSTWN works to make God’s Word available in languages people understand and at a price they can afford.
Bible Translation into Heart Languages
The BSTWN has published several major Chinese Bible versions, including the Chinese Union Version (CUV), Chinese Union Version with New Punctuation (CUNP), Today’s Chinese Version (TCV), and the Revised Chinese Union Version (or CU2010), serving millions of Chinese readers worldwide.
Relying on the Lord Jesus, we bravely move forward.
Reflecting Taiwan’s linguistic diversity, we have also translated and published the Bible in Taiwanese (Today’s Taiwanese Version), Hakka (Today’s Hakka Version) and various Formosan (Indigenous) languages. The ‘Amis, Bunun, Tayal, Paiwan, Truku, Tao, Seediq, Cou, Pinuyumayan, and Ngudradrekai languages have full Bibles, New Testaments or selected portions, which enable people from every community to encounter God’s Word in their own heart language.
In December 2024
the BSTWN began Taiwan’s first-ever Taiwan Sign Language (TSL) Bible translation, bringing Scripture to life for approximately 140,000 deaf individuals.
Phase I
Chronological Bible Translation (Dec 2024 – Mar 2026) – nearing completion.
Phase II
Full Bible Translation (2026–2028 and beyond) – to make God’s Word accessible in TSL.
Continuous growth
In response to the technological revolution, the changes in lifestyles and usage habits, and the direct and indirect impacts on society, we are also expanding the forms of our ministry.
Digital Bible and Podcast Ministry
Since 2001, the BSTWN has offered free Bible reading and study on our website, www.bstwn.org. All our published Bible texts are also available through the Digital Bible Library (DBL®), a UBS platform that securely shares Scripture resources with trusted partners worldwide.
In 2024, we launched “The Bible & Me” Podcast series, featuring Christians from various backgrounds who share how God’s Word has shaped their lives—encouraging listeners toward faith and renewal.
Supporting Future Ministers
Since 2015, the BSTWN has provided free Bibles each year to all M.Div. graduates and new students in seminaries across Taiwan. This initiative equips future pastors and leaders with the Word of God, empowering them to serve as faithful messengers of the Gospel.
Serving Communities in Need
The BSTWN actively supports social and outreach ministries, including:
“You Are God’s Treasure” – empowering disadvantaged children.
“Love of God” Diglot Edition – sharing 70 stories with children in Chinese-English and Indigenous-Chinese formats.
“World Day of Prayer” – for immigrant brides and families.
“Taiwan Can Help” – providing free Bibles to Kenya and beyond.
Looking Toward Our 70th Anniversary
As we approach our 70th anniversary in 2026, we invite your prayers and support for upcoming celebrations, including thanksgiving services in Taipei, Hualien, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.This milestone is a time for thanksgiving and renewal—a reminder of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness and our ongoing mission to transform lives through His Word.
